You must have heard the news that M$ has released kernel driver for Linux with GPLv2 License. So did really do a great job? Did it help Linux community in any way?

Lets see what the driver is about. The kernel driver is supposed to make Linux run better on Hyper-V virtual machines. That is just a marketing plan that will help M$ sell more of M$ Hyper-V Server 2008. It is not different than open-vm tools by VMWare. So it does not seem to do Linux community any good. It does good to M$ of course.

And about the License, they have used GPLv2 License. Of course, they understand the GPL license more than any others, since it concerns them a lot. And it is obvious they did not go for GPLv3 because they have already said they will not touch GPLv3 with a 10-foot pole, for obvious reasons. They have used GPLv2 for its vagueness (which arose the need for GPLv3). And by the way, an engineer has already stated in his blog that M$ has violated GPLv2 already.

So how is is going to do any good to Linux community? One way I can imagine is not having to set up another group of developers to build that so one who wants to use Linux on top of Hyper-V can use it properly, without having to wait for Linux developers to do it (we know Ntfs writing in Linux, it took a lot of time for those who wanted to write to Ntfs from Linux). And that is the only way I can imagine.

Anyways, that saves a lot of work for Linux community and I expect M$ to write code that makes it easy for users who wish to run Linux in the future (be it on their Virtual Environment or be it anywhere else that concerns M$). Someone has said on his blog that M$ is trying to do a deadly embrace using the driver module. But I think that is too paranoid and I personally don’t think they have any such plans (although that may be just me).

@shital
Thanks for the suggestions regarding names. But have you heard of reverse engineers? Reverse Engineers always keep fancy names as we do. And speaking about Gandip he sucks as his name… I’m not the only one saying. He is a community lead yah? Ask other MSP’s… They will reply in a common voice “He sucks”.

Look before calling us bhai… Fucche re.. Shital ji tapai jaba computer dekhdai yesko sansar ma ramaudai hunuhunthyo hola tyeti khera ma VB5-6 ma program haru lekhthey. Aru lai baccha bhannu bhanda agadi aina ma afno logical height herna na birsinu hola.

@MSDNNepal.COM Disliker Network User
Getting personal for showing what M$ is hiding under a fine print is not a way to go.As it seems you are just another person who is blindly following M$.
I personally thinks letting people know the fine prints is not a bad thing to do.We are not under a monarcy and have a freedem to express owr thoughts and feeling about any thing in our own way.Yo getting personal shows how narrow Minded you are and as it seems you donot want to see the bigger picture.

Malai personally dukha lagcha ki hami beech ma ni yesta bekti haru chan jo yeti dull minded cha.

I as another student of KEC is actually ashamed of you and so will many of my friends.

Thank you guyz for all the support. Please lets not get into personal battles here. That will lead us nowhere. I’m against any type of personal harassment.

We are free to dislike a company or its products and policies and speak in public. Lets keep it that way.

Personal attacks only reveal the attackers’ lack of knowledge in the subject matter and his/her poor ability to think. It also reveals the weakness or their lack of knowledge of what they are trying to defend.

About me being the subject of “being ashamed of by KEC students”, I will like to clarify that only about 100 people out of nearly 700-800 students of KEC know me by my name. Also, out of that 100, only about 10 people know about the existence of this site. Out of that 10, no one has personally told me about disliking the site or being ashamed of me. Maybe 1-3 (at most) are unhappy about it (one probably being “MSDNNepal.COM Disliker Network user” himself/herself). So if that makes it “most of KEC students”, so be it. :)

I would again like to plead in front of you guyz n gurls to not get personal and keep the discussions healthy.

Cheers.
