I heard M$ is scaring banks in Nepal to not use pirated copies. Time to seek the alternatives.
I dont think sum1 will counter to microsoft. its like day dreams. nobody can stop the lights of sun by his hands. Its only he wouldnot feel………………..

Dear Rahul (shital),
I’m sure you have not seen any other OSes except for Windows. You have no idea about how Micro$oft and its helper organization operate and what they have been doing here in Nepal.
We are not trying to stop the sun, we are just suggesting you all to come under the umbrella and enjoy the shade protecting yourself from harmful radiations which will have life-long effects.
Neither we are in any way trying to compete with Micro$oft. We don’t create competitive products to challenge Micro$oft. We do not sell products that are anti-Micro$oft. We just use alternative software and suggest you all to do the same.
We do not intend to force anyone to use any software or not use any. We have no authorities and no rights to do so. We just intend to show you that there are alternatives you can choose from, and undoubtedly, they are better than what you have been using, not only for you, but for the country you live in.
Hope you understand the efforts we are putting in and co-operate.

I maynot know how much you know. But i know little & this little is sufficent for me. I know the reason behind everything happening arround us why and from where. Obviously n Exactly there should be some alternatives not only in IT but it needs everywhere but I dont think this is a good idea. your slogan, your way of countering them. I hate these type of idea, you are following. I really hate it.
On the other hand the whole world isnot like that what you are understanding and feeling. One umbrella cant protect all the harmful radiations coming to us. Better way is that dont make air polluted so that ozone layer will not become thinner and thinner. there is already this mechanism. dont be silly. We can do many things here including your alternatives but the way you are following is totally irritating.

I am aware of activities happening around. But I doubt myself knowing reasons to all of those. I would be thankful if you cared to to put some lights on it.
I can’t think of better ways to counter it. We can like/dislike things/events based on our experiences and we can do legitimate things in our own ways to counter them. I think that makes us different. If we all thought the same, there would be no Micro$oft or Linux or BSD and hence there would be no such site and hence no discussion. If you have better ideas, please do share. If we feel that is the better way of doing it, we would be happy to follow it.
I would also like your ideas on what the whole world is like. I am aware of the fact that one umbrella can’t protect us all and we too would like to patch up ozone layer completely. But I don’t think there is anything we can do directly. We only want to share that the radiations are harmful indeed and we are using umbrella to protect ourselves so that others will try to do the same. And maybe, because of that, we hope the ozone layer is also patched by those who have authorities.
Have you seen the textbooks of kids? They intend to show that there is only Micro$oft and nothing else. Do you know what programming language is taught to SLC students? Have you seen their textbooks? None try to highlight existence of other Operating Systems which can as well be used on Desktops and servers. Do you know the reasons behind this?
I am interested in your ideas.

Microsoft is evil, and its not because it may suck OUR money from MY country… but money…..? ah….. we have lot of it yeah?
I want Microsoft out of my country because like a disease, it locks its customers into propriety solution and makes sure it holds its grip like a leach. It also lets a foreign government (Hint?) spy on our ICT assets and national secrets indefinitely and unrestrictedly.
This is not an allegation, Microsoft facilitates a foreign government for global surveillance, go figure out or promise to surrender all your Microsoft certification publicly if someone proves that to you in public? Deal boy?

Personally, I dont want my countries IT to be a “hostage” of a propriety vendor when there is equally compelling and free alternate available. DO YOU GET IT? How do you want our national ICT ecosystem to grow in the next 15 years ? A vendor dependent, insecure by DESIGN?
Is it your day job to defend and promote Microsoft here in my country or its your passion and you believe in Microsoft from soul ?

Now I am glad to say that still there are some nepalese who howeverthinks about our country. like you i also think about the same but our way of thinking is different. Why only Microsoft there are thousands of people, system, country, products cte are ruining our life, our country , ………….

Friend we have to think many things n system arround us. As we are the somehow IT relators we should think about how to make our country as a competitior to INDIA,JAPAN,USA etc no matter what he used either XP,VISTA, WINDOWS 7, LINUX or may other its not our concers.What our concern is first every nepalese is in reach with technology n IT field or not? It should be our motto. After that think abaout alternatives.

MICROSOFT is doing many good thins, it is giving free genuine software, organising people awarness proogram, making many developers n IT pro, giving free or at high discount on certification courses. relating many IT colleges students so that they have forums, chat n talk abaout It. Organising NAtional and International competition. Sharing idea program etc.
and others many things which i dont know. these are only the things which a normal person knows.

We, members of the M$ Disliker’s network think about the country too. Thats why the blog exists in the first place. We are aware of some of other things which hamper the country too. We are active in other forums, member groups and social networking sites to discuss other issues as well. But this is a place we have created just for discussing Micro$oft and its helper organizations and of course, the alternatives. So, let us limit the discussions to just that.
We also have our own identities and fields where we are good at. However, in msdnnepal.com’s case, we have seized the opportunity that Micro$oft and Nepali helper companies have missed. We also have our own websites and workplace, but we do not bring those into this for keeping it organized.
I see that you have very poor understanding of “Free Software” as defined by the “Free Software Foundation”. You, like many others, mistake the Micro$oft’s policies of giving away for Free. That is just a way to enslave us rather than make us free. That is what we are here for. I wonder what you did in the programs you attended.
You do not know how FOSS works. Let me try and explain things to you. “Free Software” as defined by “Free Software Foundation” is “software that gives you the user the freedom to share, study and modify it. We call this free software because the user is free.” Please read more here:

You will find your answer to the question “Do you have any idea abt how many yrs may this FOSS will provide freely.”. Well, I certainly do. Forever; because it is not some organization will provide you the software. If one stops, some other will come up and do it.
And Copyrights and intelluctual property rights are well preserved in Free Software too.
About your concern on “Why we are discussing Micro$oft and Free Software rather than concentrating on more important things?”, I would like to say that, we don’t want it to be too late. We can’t let Micro$oft reach all the immature minds and later take it out of them. We want it stopped as soon as possible.
And your preassumptions are very untrue:
We have written Free Softwares and services for others.
We have donated money to software and services.
and we will infact continue to do so, as long as we can.
Yes, as you said, empty stomach just craves for food and at that time; they will not mind having any food. Poisoned food should not be allowed by those who know about it. I guess thats what we have been doing.
And of course, your views about Micro$oft is just surfacial, like most newbies. You do not know about their inner policies to take upon developing countries after being thrown away by the European Union. Their free genuine programs are just misleading the students so that they don’t go for alternatives when they are in the age of learning. They are trying to hinder our iltellects and learning capabilities by trying to accustom us to their technologies and products so that we use nothing else. Like Micro$oft themselves say “Get the facts”, but don’t get it from them and their biased helpers. Try to think out of the box, my friend.

Its all about corporate monopoly. They always try to limit you with M$ based resources. They don’t want anything else to attract you towards resources other than that of M$. And I think that’s wrong.

What do you need it for? Let us know what features you want in the OS you are asking for.
If you want it for using your computer for internet, word-processing etc. I can suggest you alternatives.

Can you play linux binary games in Windows? No you can’t. If you want to use linux, why not play linux games?
However, if your requirement is to be able to play windows games in your hardware, the best way is to install Windows. There is Wine, of course, but it won’t be able to run many games.
If you just want a crappy conversation, then there is nothing we can do. Carry on with your efforts. However, if you genuinely want to shift to other OS, we can help you.

@administrator Guys The idea is good. But I think our community is self sufficient. We are satisfied with Linux and thats it. No need to display grudges like m$ do. Once everyone feels the pain of cost of genuine softwares of M$ they will readily look for alternatives and where will they end up obviously Linux

@Death Knight I think there is something called Cadega just like wine for windows games in linux. Or you can find genuine Linux games some of which are even free at http://playdeb.net,http://happypenguin.org,http://linux-games.com etc. There are much more sites just google it

i would say, if 86 % of the world uses M$ os, then why opt for any other? yeah one should keep knowledge up to dates about everything but when i’ll go on job search i would definitely be asked whether i know how to use M$ OS rather than any other….

There are several reasons why you would like to use an alternate OS. But it would be a lot better if you found it out for yourself rather than being told by someone else. Enough said for now. Best of luck for your job.
